Staying in the city for New Year’s? Jivamukti is offering two special events with senior teachers Sharon Gannon and David Life. Sharon and David have been teaching packed classes in NYC since the seventies. They now teach internationally year-round and run teacher trainings in New York and Germany.
New Year’s Eve at Jivamukti is my fail-safe party: three hours of silent meditation, preceded by yoga and a vegetarian dinner if you’re so inclined. The spacious center is filled with calm, peaceful people. You’ll start the new year with a good clean buzz.
5 to 7 pm — Master Class with Sharon and David *
7 to 8 pm — Vegan Dinner in the Jivamuktea Café *
8 to 9 pm — Kirtan with Sanga!
9 to midnight — Mauna (FREE, open to the public)
12 to 12:30am — Chanting & New Year’s Message from Sharon and David
*Price: $85 for class and dinner
This year, the festivities continue with a week of master classes. You can drop in for a single session, or book the whole week. It’s a great chance to study with a couple of New York City’s original teachers.

January 1–7, 2011
Prince George Ballroom (15 East 27th St, between 5th and Madison)
Spend a week studying with living masters Sharon Gannon and David Life. Energize your practice and become transformed. Each three-hour workshop will include meditation, asana, and spiritual teachings followed by a 45-minute question and answer session. Our goal is to make the event one that celebrates community and connection.
They’re also hosting a kirtan on Wednesday the 5th with Krishna Das. If you’ve never done kirtan (call-and-response chanting), he’s the one to start with. Such a beautiful voice, you’ll understand why he has groupies.
